Jon Hinck has served the community, the state of Maine, and beyond in a multitude of capacities, from that of an international environmental advocate to a professor of law. Throughout all of his endeavors, Jon has maintained a steady focus on environmental and consumer-oriented concerns. Since 2003, he has worked as a Staff Attorney at the Natural Resources Council of Maine, helping to preserve Maine's environment and protect its resources.

Jon has been married to Juliet Browne for fifteen years. Juliet is a lawyer with Verrill Dana, where she chairs the Environmental Law Group. Juliet represents individuals, businesses and environmental groups, and works collaboratively to resolve their environmental challenges. She also works with regulators and stakeholder groups to develop and update environmental regulations and programs in the State.
Jon and Juliet have an eight year old daughter named Darcy. She enjoys school where she is learning Spanish, has studied Mexico, China, and Maine's Wabanaki people. Darcy plays soccer in the PAYSA program. She has two guinea pigs and takes care of her grandmother's Labrador. Her mother and she regularly volunteer at the Wayside Soup Kitchen at the Community Resource Center in Portland.

As Staff Attorney at the Natural Resources Council of Maine:
  • Has led successful efforts to get Maine to enact a groundbreaking electronic waste law and other laws to control mercury pollution and remove toxic chemicals from products
  • Has campaigned to promote clean, renewable energy
  • Steering committee member Alliance for a Clean and Healthy Maine
In private law practice:
  • Concentrated on complex pro-environment and pro-consumer litigation
  • Played significant roles in several major environmental cases in state and federal courts including:
    • MTBE groundwater pollution cases
    • Exxon Valdez Oil Spill litigation
  • Has helped recover millions of dollars for Maine citizens harmed by defective products
In other capacities:
  • Served as the Acting Attorney General for the Republic of Palau
  • Was the Campaign Director for Greenpeace International
    • Worked on marine ecology, energy and toxics issues
    • Helped to achieve a worldwide ban on radioactive waste dumping at sea and end discharges of persistent organic pollutants to water
  • Also served on the Board of Directors for Greenpeace USA
  • Has been an adjunct professor of environmental law at the University of Southern Maine
